Mayday - Solemar assists 4 seamen on the dis-masted 47ft Catamaran — Bella Signora

Solemar received a Mayday relay on Sat C from MRCC Fort de France re. a 47 ft. catamaran dismasted and NUC 400 nm E of Martinique — 120 nm due S of our position on Wednesday 21st November 2012. 4 persons on board. MRCC Fort de France were notified and they responded and asked that Solemar proceeds to the scene to assist.

Position of the casualty at 15 05'N 054 22'W at 15Z. Upon arrival an assessment was made of situation — 4 persons all well, no injuries. Solemar crew launch rescue tender - crew equipped with tools to remove the rigging and 16 x 25 litre jerry cans filled with diesel so they could make port in Barbados.

Mast and rigging was removed and ditched over the side by Solemar crew and port throttle control repaired by Solemar engineers. The 4 crew were given some basic supplies and then bid farewell. Solemar released from Mayday incident and carried on with passage to Antigua.
